SC holds NGT´s Rs 190 crore fine on builder as `totally illegal´

PUNE: The Supreme Court on Friday set aside an order by the Pune bench of the National Green Tribunal (NGT), which had increased the fine on a builder for violating green norms. In the January 8 order, the NGT had enhanced the environmental compensation cost imposed on realty firm Goel Ganga Developers India Private Limited from Rs100 crore to Rs190 crore for violating norms in an integrated housing project at Vadgaon Budruk, off Sinhagad Road. `The order in review application passed by the NGT on January 8, 2018 is held to be totally illegal and is accordingly set aside,` the apex court bench of justices Madan B Lokur and Deepak Gupta said in a 57-page judgment, which also dealt with the...
